Different Cultures, Different Also Sleep Habits

Sleep habits may be influenced by the culture in which we live . A new international survey reveals, the sleeping habits of people around the world vary greatly , depending on where they live. 
For example , people living in the United States and Japan are likely to have less sleep time than those who live in Canada , Germany , Mexico , and the United Kingdom .The survey results indicate , the U.S. and Japan was 30-40 minutes shorter on weekdays compared with those in other countries . On average they slept six hours 31 minutes and six hours 22 minutes .A survey conducted by the National Sleep Foundation revealed that Americans are the nation's most sleep-deprived compared to Japan , England , Mexico , Germany , and Canada . Approximately 21 percent of Americans claim to only sleep less than six hours during weekdays .

The survey also found that two- thirds of Japanese ( 66 percent ) less than seven hours of sleep on weekdays . While the U.S. 53 percent , England 39 percent , Germany 36 percent , Canada ( 30 percent ) , and Mexico 29 percent .


To meet the needs of those who sleep less , 51 percent of Americans and the Japanese claimed nap one day in the last two weeks . People from other countries surveyed said they change their sleep on weekends with an average of 45 minutes extra sleep time .


The survey reveals cultural differences determine the six countries participating bedtime ritual affects their ability to sleep . For example , 62 percent of Mexicans and nearly 47 percent of Americans do meditation and prayer in the hours before bedtime . In the UK , 43 percent said they drink relaxation beverages , such as tea , before going to bed . Thirty percent also admitted to sleeping in a naked state. 


Watching television before bedtime is bedtime akvitas most commonly performed . Between 66 percent and 80 percent of people in all countries surveyed said they watch TV before bed .Naomi Goel , researcher and professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania said , as the first international survey of sleeping habits discuss , these results have important contribution to the world of science .

" Although we know , all the people need to sleep , but the cultural differences of the several countries about the sleeping habits have not been adequately explored , " he said .Goel hopes , will then be more prevalent this kind of survey .
